The website of the Usability Laboratory (4all-lab) is already available |
The CETpD has developed the "4all-L @ b", a HUMAN-COMPUTER interaction laboratory located in the Neàpolis building, in the Campus of the UPC in Vilanova i la Geltrú, and which now has its own website.
The 4all-L @ b is a consultancy on usability and accessibility applications and end-user oriented devices.
The laboratory has a direct observation room with a Multi-way mirror and recording system, with the possibility to remotely supervise live from an annexed meeting room. It also has mobile laboratory equipment for making observations in natural environments of use.
It is formed by a technical and professional team specialized in evaluation and design of user interfaces. The multi-character team ensures a comprehensive approach to solutions, including the analysis of the user’s behavior, psychologists sociologists, as well as the technical aspects of the graphical interface.

The healthy building |
An article about the "Healthy Building" project was published in "El periodico" news paper (edition of November 1, 2009). The Technical Research Centre for Dependency Care and Autonomous Living (CETpD) actively participates in this project, lead by the Catalan Architech Enric Ruiz-Geli. CETpD's contribution is focused in the process of obtaining of data related with the energy consumption in the building.

IV Meeting IT Network – UPC & CERs |
IThe IV meeting of the IT UPC & CERs Network took place in the Neapolis building at Vilanova y la Getru, it focused in the evaluation of the UPC technologies, it counted with the participation of both, Xavier Jaumejoan, head of technological Networks of ACC1Ó, and Juan José Moreno Navarro, director of Technology Transference and Enterprise Development of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Participation in the Arts Santa Monica |
Andreu Català, co-director of the CETpD presented a talk about Empathic environments: sensing Nature and social robotics in the Arts Santa Monica architecture exposition, The presentation took place as a part of the study for the sustaintable and self-sufficent architecture, lead by the Catalan Architect Enric Ruiz-Geli, where also counted with the participation of Mr. Jeremy Rifkin, director of the Foundation on Economic Trends.

TV3 television channel broadcast one of the sensor devices developed in CETpD-UPC and the subsequent studies to dectect and prevent falls that are being conducted in collaboration with medical staff from the Fundació Hospital Comarcal Sant Antoni Abat (FHCSAA) in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

Javier Minguez's research team visit CETpD |
Dr. Javier Minguez's research team of the University of Zaragoza is visiting CETpD to perform a brain-actuated robot teleoperation between two remote cities (300km). During one week, five subjects will use the brain-machine interface to develop navigation and exploration tasks with the robot in a remote place. The non-invasive method to record the human neural activity is the EEG, the communication channel between Zaragoza and Vilanova is internet, and the mobile robot is equipped with an orientable camera.

CosmoCaixa - How to make dance a robot? |
The activity in the CosmoNit implied to apply algorithms of computational intelligence for the discovery of dance patterns. The task includes the perception of a song like a part of the context of the user in order to plan a sequence of movements according to the music. The final effect is a robot capable of capturing the rhythm of the music and dancing with the intention of provoking the interaction with the user.

Robots' at Play at Odense (Denmark) |
The Danish city of Odense gathers its already traditional summer robot festival : Robot's at Play. This meeting is oriented to promote and motivate research and application of robot technologies among Danish's kids. Several categories of work are presented within the festival. Robots are related with music, entertainment, education and art.
Different kinds of artists prepared presentations involving cutting age robot technologies and its interaction and increase presence inside human daily way of life. One of the presentations was the one directed by the Catalan Artist Roc Pares.
In Pares' artistic performance, called "His masters voice", our AIBO robot took part: The robot dog plays tricks and dances responding to "his master's voice" which is no other than the analog recording of human voices and music playing on an old gramophone.
