The UPC’s Laboratory of Applied Bioacoustics studies ocean noise pollution in Antarctica

The Laboratory of Applied Bioacoustics expedition to Antarctica is placing permanent acoustic sensors for monitoring the effects of climate change and human activities on polar ecosystems.

The increasing noises in the sea due to de human activity is damaging the underwater life. the researcher Michel André, the director of the LAB, placed in Vilanova i la Geltrú, embarked on an expedition to obtain the first measurements from Antarctica and to test there the permanent acoustic sensors to monitor the effects of climate change on the biodiversity of this area.
